Good Grief?

Journey Through Pain and Sorrow,
Discovery and Loss.

By Deborah Constantine

“Be glad! They’re in a better place.”

“Don’t worry! This setback will only make you stronger.”

“Don’t keep looking back. You’ll get over this soon enough.”

“Cheer up! Before you know it, this will all be in the past.”

“Get out of your head. This happens to a lot of people.”

While these sentiments are often meant to comfort, they may not soothe the soul of someone who is grieving. In fact, those words may be destructive to an already fragile soul. Loss-whether it is the loss of an adult, a child, a dream, a marriage, or health-can be deeply traumatic and challenging to bear, bringing its own set of difficulties and emotions. This work chronicles tough realities.

Words of Appreciation

Deborah, in Good Grief, you have offered us a gift. You have created a resource that shows us what righteous grief looks like and how, when our sorrow is surrendered to the Lord, it can become a pathway toward gratitude, healing, and renewed hope. This book is truly a much-needed guide for those walking through grief themselves, as well as for those who are supporting and comforting others in the midst of it.

Your work reminds me of the words found in the Psalms:

Psalm 112:6–7
“He will never be shaken; the righteous will be remembered forever. He will not fear bad news; his heart is confident, trusting in the Lord.”

Pastor Jerome Gay, Jr.

Vision Church RDU

Good Grief”... How can those two words go together? In this book, Deborah has woven them together as she relates her experience with grief following the death of her beloved husband, Edward.  If you are experiencing loss or grief of any kind this is an inspiring message to help you work through the many stages of grief in a positive way that allows for the heart to begin to mend and  for you to find new meaning and purpose for your life. As she shares, it isn’t easy or quick, but it is possible.  Please hear Deborah’s words and lean on her helpful expressions of re-finding balance between”the grief and the good” that is still possible for you.  It will be a blessing to you.

Like ours, Deborah’s walk through grief is palpable. Unlike hers, however, at least for me, I found myself without words, no articulate means to express it. No vehicle for it to ride. And that’s okay for a time. But in time, processing it, to me, has brought an inner healing through reading this book. Loss, and the pain remains, but I can live with gratitude that God allowed me to love so deeply, that I can mourn.
Deborah, you have helped me to sit quietly and allow myself and others I treasure to go on their personal grief journey. I plan to leave this book replete with God’s Word, which I trust to provide comfort and peace.
